Treasury Secretary Shuts Democrats DOWN
Congressional Democrats hoping to get their hands on President Donald Trump’s taxes just got shot down in a big way.
In no uncertain terms Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has informed Democrats that he will not be honoring their request to access six years worth of Trump’s tax information.
“In reliance on the advice of the Department of Justice, I have determined that the Committee’s request lacks a legitimate legislative purpose,” Mnuchin wrote to Congress, “the Department is therefore not authorized to disclose the requested returns and return information.”
The Ways and Means Committee, controlled by Democrats, had demanded the documents in April but Mnuchin held off citing a need to confer with the Department of Justice.
Rep. Richard Neal has rebased a statement in response that could mean legal proceedings are on the horizon.
“Today, Secretary Mnuchin notified me that the IRS will not provide the documents I requested under Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code. I will consult with counsel and determine the appropriate response,” Neal said.
